Tiffany Hunt (PhD 2021) awarded a Getty Research Institute postdoctoral fellowship for the 2021-2022 academic year
I'm thrilled to share that I was awarded a Getty Research Institute postdoctoral fellowship for the 2021-2022 academic year devoted to the theme of "The Fragment." Due to covid, the fellowship will be fully remote.
My project, Renewing the Past, Maturing the Modern: Bruno Zevi's Exhibitions of Renaissance Architecture (1956-1977), represents the first study devoted to Zevi's curatorial practice, specifically three significant shows -- Biagio Rosetti (1956) at Teatro Comunale in Ferrara; Mostra Critica delle Opere Michelangiolesche (1964) at Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome; and Brunelleschi Anti-Classico (1977) at the Chiostro grande of Santa Maria Novella in Florence. Working through the photographic archives of Bruno Zevi, Paolo Portoghesi, and Piero Sartogo, I will analyze how a series of historical exhibitions stages at the apex of the modernist movement directly contributed to the definition of early modern architecture, claiming it as the innovative forerunner for modern architectural style, and vice-versa.
Research for this project initially began in 2018 as part of my pre-doctoral fellowship from the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft in the abteilung of Director Tristan Weddigen at the Bibliotheca Hertziana in Rome. My recent publication, "Michelangelo in 1964: The Critical Model as Dialectical Image in Bruno Zevi's Renaissance Architecture" (Architectural Theory Review, 2020) illustrates a part of the larger project.
I am proud to represent Temple at the Getty Research Institute.
