Each year, the Art Education Department presents exhibitions of work done by student teachers and their pupils for display at the Stella Elkins Gallery. This year, four student teachers displayed the products of their time at a variety of schools as community members gathered in fellowship to appreciate the art made by friends and loved ones.Wendy Osterweil, the supervising professor of this group of students, was one of the Tyler officials present for this installation. “What’s unique about this show is that it’s a rather small group. Each student put a lot of time into this exhibition, and it shows.” The student teachers exhibiting were Brooke Mulroy, Madeline Willis, Maria Chambers, and Anna Capriotti.

Narrative Horizons presents the work of three women—Kay Healy, Sophia Narrett and Erin M. Riley—whose contemporary studio practices are heavily influenced by traditions steeped in functional craft and the handmade. Presented in conjunction with CraftNOW—a citywide exhibition examining the fluid boundaries that exist around art, design and craft—this show considers how contemporary revivals of sewing, weaving and embroidery reflect the continuing feminist interest in historical technique and play a crucial role in helping these artists understand the past while addressing identity in the present and future. This was an exhibition showcasing the studio art practices of the Graduate students of Tyler School of Art and Architecture's Art Education and Community Practices Department. The concept for Implicit Intersections was to celebrate moments when the act of making art intersects with one's development as an educator/researcher.
