Erin M. Riley Alumni in Narrative Horizons at Moore

September 16 – December 9, 2017 Narrative Horizons presents the work of three women—Kay Healy, Sophia Narrett and Erin M. Riley—whose contemporary studio practices are heavily influenced by traditions steeped in functional craft and the handmade. Presented in conjunction with CraftNOW—a citywide exhibition examining the fluid boundaries that exist around art, design and craft—this show considers how contemporary revivals of sewing, weaving and embroidery reflect the continuing feminist interest in historical technique and play a crucial role in helping these artists understand the past while addressing identity in the present and future. Artist Talk: Thursday, October 19, 6:30 pm.   Read More

Tyler Alumni Receives Leeway Grant

Grants are one of the greatest resources for artists with a vision. Recently, a Tyler Alumna was the recipient of the Leeway Grant, a source of funds that provides a variety of awards to artists working towards social change in their practice. The Leeway Foundation seeks to amplify marginalized voices in art, providing creators with resources to accomplish their goals and participate in the making of a space in our culture for the unheard. Prof Jane DeRose Evans is presenting recent work on the excavation coins of Sardis, Turkey, "Coins and Pottery: Tracking the Numismatic Profile of 4th and 5th Century Sardis" at the annual meetings of the American Schools of Oriental Research, in Boston.  The talk is part of her forthcoming monograph, to be published by Harvard University Press. Jonathan Kline contributes two chapters to "Gli Affreschi delle Palazze / The Palazze Frescoes" (Gangemi Editore)

Assistant Professor Jonathan Kline published two chapters in an edited volume on the frescoes of a thirteenth-century monastery in Italy. The bilingual volume is titled Gli Affreschi delle Palazze: Una Storia tra Umbria e America / The Palazze Frescoes: A Tale between Umbria and America. To mark the publication of the volume, Dr. Kline and colleagues from Italy gave lectures on their research at College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, MA, and at Temple University. Read More

MoMA acquires sculpture by Barbara Chase-Riboud

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) has acquired The Albino (aka All that Rises Must Converge/Black), 1972, its fourth acquisition of Barbara Chase-Riboud's work. Her solo show Barbara Chase-Riboud--Malcolm X: Complete is currently on view at Michael Rosenfeld Gallery, New York.  Chase-Riboud received her Bachelor of Fine Art from Tyler in 1957.   Read More
