Dr. Alvarez awarded a fellowship for 2021-2022

Mariola V. Alvarez has been awarded a Regional Faculty Fellowship with the Wolf Humanities Center at the University of Pennsylvania for the 2021–2022 academic year. Alvarez will join Mellon postdoctoral fellows, advanced doctoral fellows, and faculty fellows from Penn and other institutions throughout the region, whose work represents a wide range of disciplines in the humanities. Alvarez will present work on early twentieth century immigrant artist groups in São Paulo, Brazil as part of the Center's Mellon Research Seminar on "Migration." Read More

Tyler Alumnus Wins Prestigious Rome Prize

Tyler School of Art and Architecture alumnus William Villalongo (MFA ‘01) has recently been awarded a prestigious 2021–2022 Rome Prize—a highly competitive fellowship that supports advanced independent work and research in the arts and humanities. Each of the 35 artists and scholars awarded a Rome Prize will receive a stipend, workspace and room and board at the Academy’s eleven-acre campus in Rome, Italy, in September 2021. Read More

Two undergraduates win awards for 2021 summer research

India Thorne was awarded a SROP summer grant for her internship at the Penn Museum. Aine Playdon was awarded a TU Diamond Research Undergraduate grant. She will be working with Prof Evans on a project about ancient female athletes, and will be presenting the results of her work at the Diamond Research conference in the fall. Read More
