Associate Professor of Instruction Bryan Satalino (MFA ‘13) approaches Graphic and Interactive Design from an innovative, entrepreneurial lens. He joined Tyler’s faculty in 2013 specifically to foster students’ understanding of the relationship between graphic design and business, and successfully founded The Hatchery, Tyler’s project incubator. He teaches students how to model their art as a business and provides them with tools to interact with real-world clients in bold and inventive ways.

Sadie Red Wing (sadieredwing.com) is a Lakota graphic designer and advocate from the Spirit Lake Nation of Fort Totten, North Dakota. Red Wing earned her BFA in New Media Arts and Interactive Design at the Institute of American Indian Arts. She received her Master of Graphic Design from North Carolina State University. Her research on cultural revitalization through design tools and strategies created a new demand for tribal competence in graphic design research. Red Wing urges Native American graphic designers to express visual sovereignty in their design work, as well as encourages academia to include an Indigenous perspective in the design curriculum. Currently, Red Wing serves as an Assistant Professor at OCAD University (Toronto, ONT).

Junior GAID students are displaying their vibrant, interactive kiosk posters as part of the annual restaurant identity project, “Crave.” With brightly colored, engaging imagery, enticing language, and scannable QR codes that lead to video and behind-the-scenes content, “Crave” is a showcase of nearly all the skills cultivated in the GAID program. Curated by Professor Paul Sheriff, who has been coordinating this assignment for the last 25 years since his time at the original Elkins Park campus, “Crave” has grown and changed over the years to reflect a modern student and creator.
